Making Nature Accessible: Cabanas sen Barreiras

Tuesday, Januaty 14, 2020

We’re proud of our work to bring the experience of our unique environment to everyone. One of our more recent innovations was the construction of a new set of treehouses that we call Cabanas sen Barreiras. These six treehouses have all the magic of our other properties, but without barriers to access. We built them on the side of the mountain so that most can be accessed via a level ramp rather than stairs, while still soaring as high as 6 metres above the ground thanks to the slope.

Each of the treehouses has its own particular charm. Pedra dos Corvos, named for a mythical rock that can never be covered by the tide, is appropriately the highest up the mountain, and has just the kind of stunning views you might imagine. Pedra Pinta, on the other hand, boast a tree growing right through the deck. You can’t get a more immersive forest experience than that! All the treehouses at this property have views of the Río Tambre river valley which you can enjoy from an outdoor jacuzzi on the deck.

If you wander the graded trails near the treehouses you’ll find a collection of Rincones Mágicos (Magical Corners), little enchanting spots we’ve identified that draw your attention the natural world or a piece of local history as you listen to the wind in the trees and the splash of the water. Near the treehouse named Punta Seilán you’ll find Cova do Raposo, where you can fox dens hidden among the fallen leaves. Or seek out O Regadoiro, where you’ll see a stone basin where generations of local women would come to do their washing. These special places make you feel connected to nature and to history.

All our Cabanas sen Barreiras have enough room for up to 2 adults and a child and are connected by graded gravel and paved paths. Restaurants, beaches, and plenty of other activities are not far away!
